The Conclusion of My Infertility Experiences

November 2017 to February 2018

Scott and I both completed our list of "Next Steps":

Next Steps for me: Blood Work / Hysterosalpinogram / Sonohystogram

Next Steps for Scott: Blood Work / And Some Fun in a Cup!

All the tests came back normal (average or even above-average)!

Ultimately, with Scott's tests returning normal, it was more-or-less possible to rule him out as the person "at fault" for our infertility. His sperm shapes were a bit wonky but apparently well within normal acceptable parameters.

So, the only potential clues to our infertility at this point were: "Old' Ovaries (lack of visible, healthy follicles), Stress, Hypothyroidism, and the Endometriomas on my left ovary. All of these, in theory, could cause infertility.

I went back to discuss options with Dr. Maas, and decided to pay for an expensive in-depth analysis of my blood/urine to check for various fertility hormone levels to see if there was any sign of what the exact cause of our infertility could be. Basically, if the follicles really were few and far between, this should be confirmed by the labwork, and it would be reasonable to assume that lifestyle changes would have limited or no effect on curing our infertility. In which case, we would be looking at having to pay for medical assistance, of one type or another, to create our Ultimate Pet with the help of SCIENCE!

But, it turned out, that the labwork came back NORMAL! In fact, I supposedly had the fertility levels of a 25 year old!

Dr. Maas said that my results were completely inconsistent with what was suspected after the initial transvaginal ultrasound. THEY COULD NOT BOTH BE CORRECT.

Theoretically, we should have no problem getting pregnant presuming stress levels were reduced, my hypothyroidism was treated, and we hoped to not have a left dominant ovary every month (no egg, no baby!).

These results led us to decide not pursue any methods of scientific baby creation. We figured we were still young, (myself relatively speaking), and we could afford to "see what happens" for a few more years before making the decision to invest in procedures that could potentially cost upwards of $15,000 per attempt.

In essence, we decided to forget about it. Mentally, I decided it was never going to happen and I didn't think about it anymore, and I was happy and content with a life without children.

Unfortunately, I became too comfortable with that potential future. So I felt completely unprepared and mentally shocked when, 7 months later, in late September 2018, I peed on a stick and was faced with a result of  POSITIVE!

OUR ULTIMATE PET WAS COMING AFTER ALL!!!
